Venture for America Fellows at BioMotiv
By: Kimberly Schonhorst
Since opening its doors in 2015, BioMotiv has partnered with Venture for America (VFA), a two-year fellowship program that connects recent college grads with startups across all industries in one of 14 partner cities, to find top candidates to join our team as Business Analysts. I recently checked in with some of my fellow BioMotiv VFA Fellows to get some insight into their experience with VFA and what they’ve learned since joining BioMotiv.
“I chose to do VFA because I wanted to be in a role that challenged me and allowed me to grow professionally in ways that I wouldn’t be able to at a larger, more traditional company. I also am excited to use the support, training, and funding that VFA provides to fellows who want to launch their own project or company down the line.”
“I chose BioMotiv because I was inspired by its mission. My interests and experience in both science and business development aligned with the Business Analyst role. In addition, I knew the role would be a great way to challenge myself to learn a lot about the industry, project management, and the legal aspect of drug development that I had not previously been exposed to. The culture was also a huge plus. I knew I would be able to learn a lot from the highly successful, intelligent people at BioMotiv and still feel welcome in the friendly, open environment.”
“I chose to join BioMotiv because it was in the industry where I saw my background meld with my experiences for the sake of my life motives which included helping people. I saw the health and biotech space also as a place to grow in a different managerial/business structure as well as an opportunity where I can be thrown into something where I can learn from all the expertise around me.”
“Over the past year at BioMotiv, I have gained valuable project management experience and learned how to balance many different priorities. Planning and executing projects has given me valuable, transferable skills that I will take with me wherever I go in the future.”
“One of my favorite memories at BioMotiv has been learning Arabic from and teaching Spanish to BioMotiv’s finance director, Fares Zaboura with our finance director, Fares. We both realized soon after I joined that we shared this common interest and now it’s become part of how we interact on a daily basis and has been a bond between us. Although he’s much better at Spanish than I am at Arabic, I’m working on it!”
“BioMotiv is thrilled to participate in the VFA program,” said Baiju R. Shah, CEO, BioMotiv. “Each of our VFA Fellows has come in with an individual and diverse skill set, ready to learn and become active members of our team. The Fellows have been a tremendous asset to the work BioMotiv does each and every day.”
